Key Influencer – Nathan Cooper – Alberta’s Senior Representative to the United States

The Honorable Nathan Cooper was recently appointed as Alberta’s Senior Representative to the United States, based at the Alberta Washington Office. Cooper previously served as the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta since 2019. He replaces James Rajotte who will continue to support Premier Smith on the U.S. file as a senior advisor.
As Senior Representative, Cooper will lead Alberta’s efforts to attract investment, expand trade opportunities, and maintain relationships with key decision-makers in the U.S.
From 2015 to 2025, Cooper served as the MLA for Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills. In 2017, he was appointed interim leader of the newly formed UCP and Alberta’s Leader of the Official Opposition. Before he was elected MLA, he held the roles of chief of staff and director of legislative affairs for the Wildrose caucus and served two terms as a councillor for the Town of Carstairs. Recognized for his expertise in parliamentary affairs, Cooper became dean of the Canadian Speaker Association in 2025 as Canada’s longest-serving speaker.
