Erin O’Neill has been appointed the new interim Chief Executive Officer of Alberta Health Services (AHS), taking on the role during a period of significant organizational transition. She replaces Andre Tremblay, who is currently on leave. O’Neill most recently served as senior vice-president of finance and shared services at AHS.

O’Neill brings extensive experience in emergency management, government administration, and health system operations. She previously served as the Assistant Deputy Minister of Primary Care and as AHS’s executive director of research and innovation. In the latter role, she oversaw the project management office for the Alberta Surgical Initiative, which aims to increase surgical capacity and reduce wait times across the province.

Her appointment follows a period of leadership turnover at AHS, including the departure of former CEO Athana Mentzelopoulos and the dissolution of the previous board. O’Neill assumes leadership as the province continues to shift major responsibilities from AHS to new Crown agencies, including Acute Care Alberta and Primary Care Alberta. As interim CEO, O’Neill will guide AHS through the province’s evolving health care restructuring.
