Key Influencer – Sayid Ahmed – Chief of Staff to the Minister of Infrastructure

Sayid Ahmed has built a career in public service, with experience across both the federal and provincial levels of government. He was recently appointed as Alberta’s Chief of Staff to the Minister of Infrastructure, Martin Long. Before this appointment, Sayid served as a Senior Director at the Government of Alberta’s Department of Health.

Sayid began his public service career as an economist for the Canadian Food Inspection Agency in Ottawa. He has since held various roles within the Government of Alberta, including economist, policy advisor, manager, and senior director. Sayid is also deeply committed to community service. He actively volunteers with organizations such as United Way, Edmonton’s Food Bank, and local community leagues. He also runs a free tax filing service for low-income and middle-income residents in Edmonton.

Sayid has direct political experience as well, having run as a candidate in both federal and provincial elections. He represented the UCP in Edmonton-Decore during the 2023 Alberta general election and ran as the Conservative Party candidate in Edmonton Centre in the 2025 federal election. Originally from Somalia, Sayid immigrated to Canada and resides in Edmonton with his wife and four children. He holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of Ottawa.
