Gurtej Singh Brar has joined the Alberta NDP caucus as the newly elected MLA for Edmonton-Ellerslie, following his by-election win in June 2025. He succeeds Rod Loyola, who stepped aside earlier this year to run in the federal election. Known for being an effective communicator and a dedicated public servant, Brar is committed to ensuring that the voices of his constituents are heard at the Legislature.

Before entering politics, Brar built a career in media and broadcasting. He earned a diploma from Ashton College in Vancouver, British Columbia, and went on to work as a radio host with Connect FM. Through his broadcasting work, he used his platform to amplify the voices of underrepresented communities.

Originally from Punjab, India, Brar has called Edmonton home for many years and is a proud father of two. He has been deeply involved in community life, serving on the boards of several non-profits, cultural groups, and media organizations. His work reflects a commitment to strengthening community engagement across Edmonton.
